About Us

“Finally we can have it a bit easier now there is a demand for possum fur. No longer do we have to slog away spending hours trapping, skinning, and drying possum skins only to find out when you go to sell them that the pelts are only worth $3 each. At last we can trap, pluck and get a guaranteed good price for the fur.”

“Sure but can you believe the price of possum traps! You have to have a full time job before you can afford to buy them!”

That is the conversation that in 2006 inspired the creation of Possum Traps NZ. After 35 years experience in the field of possuming we knew what was required for a good trap.

Bushmans Best Traps are designed after the very efficient old gin trap. We have worked with the right people, including MAF, to insure Bushmans Best Traps are strong, light, and effective as well as being within the new regulations now and in the future regarding possum traps.

Be aware that under the new regulations if you are caught using the old gin traps you may be prosecuted and receive 6 months imprisonment or a fine of up to $25,000.

We also realised that there was a whole new generation of people getting into trapping. Many of the new generation trappers had never done it before or had vague memories of doing it once when they were kids. Because of this Craig has drawn on his years of experience and written a book about the basics of possum trapping, which include everything you need to know to get started. We also sell Starter Kits which includes traps, lure, and the book ‘Possuming Profit and Pest Control”.

And best of all because you buy direct from us, you cut out the middle man, so inturn the price is a lot less than other traps on the market.

Possums continue to be a huge problem in New Zealand, they are spreading T.B, stripping trees in our native forests, and they are killing off our native birds such as the kiwi by eating their eggs.

Our entire range of products can be ordered through our on line store.
